Excessive sweat treatment with Miradry
What kind of procedure is it and what are its advantages?
Primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) usually begins in childhood or early adolescence but can occur at any age. This is usually lifelong, although in some people the symptoms can spontaneously improve over time. Severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis can be identified by 3 or 4 points on the severity scale of hyperhidrosis disease. Excessive sweating can have a profound effect on the quality of life, interfering with daily activities, causing anxiety and embarrassment.
Miradry eliminates sweating in the armpits immediately and permanently. You no longer need to buy deodorants, throw out white T-shirts, feel the inconvenience of sweat at the most inopportune moment. However, the promise of “forever” may be hard to believe. Let’s begin to understand how the human excretory system and the Miradry system works.
Only two percent of the sweat glands are located in the armpits, this is insignificant for the body. If they are removed, the body does not need to adapt to the changes, which is why Miradry was approved by the FDA – the Food and Drug Administration.
MiraDry triggers the irreversible degradation of sweat glands and hair follicles. Hair and skin colour do not play a role. You can come to MiraDry at any time of the year.
What problems does it solve?
- Increased sweating (hyperhidrosis)
- Strong odor
How does the procedure work?
The procedure lasts about an 1-1,5 hours and is performed under local anesthesia. Armpit hair removal should be done a couple of days before treatment. No other drugs are required. The doctor makes an injection in the armpits.
The technology works on the principle of microwave radiation. It has long been used for non-contact tissue heating in physiotherapy and surgery, and now in cosmetology.
The bottom line is that water molecules absorb the maximum amount of microwave energy. Our body also has a lot of fluid, which allows us to warm up the sweat glands and hair follicles to the temperature at which they coagulate, that is to break down.
The energy targets a strict area and depth. This requires a barrier that does not allow radiation to go deeper. The waves are reflected by subcutaneous fat. We focus on the area where the hair follicles and two types of sweat glands lie: the apocrine secretes a smell, and the eccrine glands secrete moisture. Those and others are excreted through the lymphatic ducts, then are ejected in the urine. They will not return, as they do not grow back.
Swelling after the procedure lasts up to 8 weeks, increased sensitivity will last up to 3 months. Many patients have marks from the procedure, but they disappear within a few days. There are no lasting side effects. It is recommended to wear loose clothing made from natural fabrics immediately after the procedure.
What is the result?
- Axillary sweating will be eliminated immediately
- Since the glands are no longer active, the effect is permanent
- For most patients, one procedure is enough, it is very effective. For some patients, two procedures are required, depending on the activity of the glands.
- As a bonus, hair growth will be limited or completely halted in the treated area
How many procedures are required to complete the course?
In one or two sessions, sweating is reduced by an average of 82%. The effect occurs immediately after the procedure. In rare cases, two procedures are necessary. Over the course of 1-2 months, the effects will continue to increase. The final result is a complete elimination of sweating and odor.
