While your body does need sweat glands to cool itself, your body has 2-4 million sweat glands – only about 2% are found in your underarms.  Eliminating this 2% of sweat glands does not affect your body’s ability to cool itself. With miraDry, you will experience the many benefits of reducing sweat in the underarm area, but you will continue to sweat in other areas of your body. miraDry uses thermal energy to create heat in the area where bothersome sweat glands reside and safely eliminates them.

Primary axillary hyperhidrosis typically begins during childhood or adolescence, but can happen at any age. It is usually life-long, although in a few people symptoms can spontaneously improve over time. Severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis can be defined as a score of 3 or 4 on the Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale. Excessive sweating can have a profound effect on quality of life, interfering with daily activities and causing anxiety and embarrassment.

You should not have miraDry if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have an active infection, form keloid scars, have significant scar tissue or surgical scars in the underarm area, have difficulty with or allergy to local anesthesia (lidocaine with epinephrine), have a cardiac pacemaker or other electronic implant, have cysts or hidradenitis suppurativa, have radiation injury of the underarm area. It is recommended not to have miraDry if you are currently on Accutane (isotretinoin) or are within 6 months post accutane treatment.

It is better to remove underarm hair a couple of days before the treatment. No other preparations are needed.

The miraDry procedure is performed by a doctor and typically takes one hour. Local anesthesia will be administered before starting the treatment. Patients experience no discomfort during the procedure and there is minimal to no downtime afterwards. A mild over-the-counter pain medication and ice packs are generally recommended for a few days. Patients are able to return to normal activities or work right after the procedure, and can typically resume exercise within several days. It is recommended to wear loose clothes of natural fabrics right after the treatment.

  • – Underarm sweating will be eliminated immediately
  • – Since the glands are no longer active, the effect is permanent
  • – It is enough to have one treatment for most patients, the procedure is very effective
  • – The treatment is painless and safe: it affects only 2% of all body sweat glands
  • – Hair growth will be limited or stopped in the treated area as a bonus
